Watershed Investment Initiative

United States
World Resources Institute »

The World Resources Institute is launching a nationwide collaboration to advance green infrastructures as a feasible approach to water resource protection across the United States. The initiative seeks to increase public and private investment in the conservation, sustainable management and restoration of upstream natural ecosystems to secure clean freshwater supplies and, where applicable, reduce flooding.

WRI will work within the existing structure of Source Water Collaborative, a group of 23 federal, state and local organizations that share strategies, ideas and best practices for protecting fresh water supplies.  Among the cities and regions already pioneering this approach are New York City, Portland (Maine), Raleigh (North Carolina), Denver (CO), and landowners and cities in the Delware River Basin and Pacific Northwest. The initiative will build on this early work and spread the practices to other municipalities.

Blackstone Ranch Institute provided an initial seed grant.
