Global Climate Change Solutions Trainings for Women

Spring 2014 • International

The Women’s Earth and Climate Action Network (WECAN) is building upon the successful launch of its online solutions forum by starting a series of online trainings for women in different countries of the Global South. Those who receive training will benefit from women with specialized skills and areas of interest who are part of WECAN. The network includes grassroots leaders, scientists, indigenous leaders, businesswomen, academics, policy leaders and educators.

Women who have been participating in the network have requested trainings that will be developed directly from ongoing discussions and input to the solutions forum. They will focus on the design and implementation of regional climate action plans, and specific solutions based trainings in water, energy, food, carbon emission reductions, and forest protection and restoration. This will lead to the development of solar and wind businesses, climate responsive organic farming, carbon fee advocaty and the protection of rain forests.

Initial programs are being launched in Tanzania, Morocco, Democratic Republic of the Congo, and Bolivia. More than a dozen women’s networks and organizations from around the world will participate in the early development of the trainings, a number that will increase as the program evolves.

Blackstone Ranch Institute provided a grant to launch and develop the online solutions forum in 2013, and is now providing a grant to develop the followup work on global training programs. Other foundations will also participate.
