Launch of Voices for Biodiversity Fellowship at Duke University

Winter 2016 • Durham, North Carolina

Voices for Biodiversity (V4B) is launching a fellowship program in biodiversity in partnership with the Nicholas School of the Environment at Duke University. The fellowship will provide students at the school with the opportunity to gather stories from around the world for publication on the V4B website.

The stories will come from the dozens of citizen journalists, field biologists, indigenous people and local activists who are part of the V4B network that has been built over the past decade. The fellowship program is intended as a model that can be adopted by other leading university environmental studies programs, and will over time catalyze much needed action at policy and community levels.

V4B is an award winning online publishing venue for those who are devoted to educating readers about the challenges of biodiversity loss and the diversity of responses that have come from people around the world. Many of those who have been published by V4B would not otherwise have had an outlet for their stories, and many have either been activists or professionals in their communities or gone on to become active in community or professional capacities in various fields of environmental practice.

Blackstone Ranch Institute has provided a grant that will enable V4B to launch the initial group of fellowship students. Part of the grant will be used as a challenge to attract future funding.
