Western Landowners Alliance

Durango, CO

The Western Landowners Alliance is a group of privately owned, large scale ranching properties in the American West that advances policies and practices that sustain working lands, connected landscapes and native species. When formed in the summer of 2012, the group had the participation of landowners in eleven states and on some 10 million acres of land.

The alliance is the first of its kind, and is based upon the recognition that the best managed lands in the west are very often privately owned. The alliance aims to maintain the economic viability of privately owned conservation oriented lands and build a network for social and policy influence on how such lands are managed.Over time the alliance aims to include a variety of ranch properties of different scales, based upon the best principls and practices of ecologically sound land management. The alliance aims to include lands that work for both people and nature.
